There’s an APP for that!
Television commercials when the iPhone 4 was introduced coined the catchphrase “there’s an app for that”. And with yet another launch of a powerful smartphone, our lives continued to become more mobile, yet again.
Recent surveys show that 50% of North Americans are now using smartphones. And much of that is thanks to the Apple iPhone. Since then we have seen the second generation iPad introduced, and Apple continues to dominate in the world of tablets. A second iPhone 4 was introduced in 2011, and it’s apparent that the iPhone 5 is just around the corner.
Much of our daily lives now revolves around mobile and handheld technology (whether we’re an iPhone fan or not.) Because for literally everyone, there’s not only “an app for that”, but the perfect smartphone to fit our very busy lives.
Smartphones like the Apple iPhone go far beyond phone calls and the ability to send and receive emails on the go. It’s the APPS that bring smartphones to LIFE.
Just as much as changed in the cell phone world, so has much changed in the past two years for the online marketer. Smartphones should now be part of your “way of life”.
Keeping in touch … using social networking.
For those who have found that email marketing was once stable and effective, there have been some sweeping reductions in its effectiveness in the past two years. Part of this I suspect has been due to the surging popularity of smartphones. Saying that you might be wondering, if we’re all now getting our email “on the go” then why hasn’t email marketing become MORE effective than it was before? Simply put, most of us who receive high volumes of email use a collection of email accounts to manage our inboxes. We’ll use one address for subscriptions, another for purchases, and then the most important private email address for personal communication and urgent notifications. So if it’s not personal or urgent, then chances are we aren’t going to see & read the incoming email broadcast.
It’s for that reason that social networking sites have become much more than just keeping in touch with our old friends as well as current ones. Facebook for example has become a very effective way of developing relationships as well as nurturing existing ones.
Web sites MUST be mobile.
If you own a web site or three, then make sure that they are operational on a mobile platform. Gone are the days of checking your work simply on one or two browsers, but an online marketer, blogster, video marketer, audio marketer (and so forth) today also MUST be sure that their web site runs well on its mobile counterpart. So if you have YET to get a smartphone, then when your cellphone contract is up … it’s time to jump forward, not simply for your own use, but to experience what your customers and prospects are digesting when they visit you on your site, blog, or social platform page.
90% Of Traffic Is Video.
It’s already been said this year (January 2012) that 90% of web traffic is video. If you’ve noticed a decline in your inbound traffic, then the quick answer to that problem is to start adding video to your sites and blogs.
